Waiting for the Man to make a call? Same here! I know that whatever sense of urgency I may be feeling is nothing compared to those of you who can’t just look out the window and see whats going on. So, here is whats goin’ on man…
We have endured a reversal of fortune on the Lake Effect Snow front seeing heavy snows fall all around us while the sun continues to shine high above the Glenwood Valley. Very frustrating indeed.
The good news is that the temperatures were colder than I expected and we saw long runs of continuous snowmaking over the past week. Also (here comes the eternal optimism silver lining glass is always half full line of bull) the lack of wet heavy natural snow early last week allowed the ground to freeze up some and should result in an excellent surface when we open thanks to the skill and experience of our snowmaking crew!
Whats going to open when we do get rolling… Looking at the slopes today I think Holly should pop open with excellent skiing and riding. Twister is coming along, but without another run of cold and some help from Ullr it will take a bit more time to get er’ done. The bunny hill should be open?
Park Features etc. I am trying to track down S. Voit today to get a detailed plan on park progression. Keep posted. Operations is very dedicated to the park scene this year as evidence by the new park slope atop World of your own and expanded features etc. Look to the park page in the next week or so for the seasonal park plan.
So, that is all well and good, all I want to know is when will you open?!… The official word will be dropped Wednesday if all goes as planned. I suspect that we will open at 9am Friday morning with Holly and the beginner hill (Beginner hill needs some more snowmaking weather). This is a very early opening and crazy early taking note that we have seen more than 3 inches of natural snow.
I will continue to post updates as information becomes available.

aren’t you having the meeting tommorow (wednesday) to discuss opening plans?
Comment by snowbrdr1 — November 25, 2008 @ 8:45 am
That would be the standard M/O. I have been told I will have the official news concerning Fridays status on Wednesday. I really can’t wait, a couple of frosty beverages in the basement tuning skis last night and I am fully ready for what I hope is a long season!

Well if you were holiday valley you would be up by now!
Comment by Lime — November 25, 2008 @ 2:59 pm
If we got two to three feet of natural snow we would be open also, truth is I am very happy with the snowmakers being able to open the day after Thanksgiving with only two or three inches of window dressing snow as of today. It shows a level of commitment that puts a smile on my old jaded face!

well man, it looks like you got your wish! I live just a mile or two north of the slopes, and we got a rockin’ foot over night! I can only imagine what has been dropped at a higher elevation! hello friday!

Still coming down brother! Looking better that Twister will open as well, can’t rule out a few features at this point, but that is just speculation. Tickets discounted $30.00 unlimited ticket for adults and $25.00 for juniors. Detals as they become available at kbski.com. Ride with care on Friday, its gonna be a long season, no use banging yourself or someone else on day #1. See you on the slopes.

Are the tickets discounted on Saturday, or just opening day?
Comment by toloveandtobeloved — November 26, 2008 @ 5:48 pm
I have been told the discount prices will be available through opening weekend. A night ticket will also be available at a discount rate, 15 bones I think, 4pm-close.

So when can we expect twister to be open? i was bummed to find that there weren’t any rails or something up as in past years.
Comment by Smuffy — November 30, 2008 @ 2:18 pm
Admin, have you said anything about Blackjack being left ungroomed, mistletoe being ungroomed or have mogul, or woodstrail being ungroomed?
I know it’s early still, I’m just saying
Comment by Matt — November 30, 2008 @ 2:30 pm
yeah admin woodstrail should be ungroomed

im really excited for more slopes to open, especially coal chute. but just the feeling of boarding this early is good enough for me!
Comment by toloveandtobeloved — December 1, 2008 @ 5:21 pm
any rails yet?
Comment by dj anthony — December 2, 2008 @ 8:20 am
Not until Twister is open from what I have been told. It should go by the weekend in my opinion.
Comment by admin — December 2, 2008 @ 11:53 am
I hear things in my head sometimes, likely the result of one too many ski racing related impacts to my dome. This afternoon the voice in my head told me that some features should be added as early as Thursday and certainly we should have some stuff for the weekend. Then again I’m not just a little bit crazy. While I am at it, anyway you all can pass it along that directly under the unloading ramp is poor spot to buckle up, that makes me very angry, and you would not like me when I’m angry. Aside from that things have been great on the hill as we share limited space. Snowguns just turned on and I remain hopeful that Twister can go by Thursday as well.

Is there going to be some Moguls on Twister??
Comment by Matt — December 2, 2008 @ 3:42 pm
Nothing would make me happier! Moguls (most times) are formed by skiers and boarders over multiple days of use without grooming overnight so expecting moguls right of would to dispontment also with only two trails I expect some park feratures on Twister on grooming. I am not alone in my quest to see some terrain left to evolve and in a few places at least…Stop The Brutal Grooming (80s Colorado bumber sticker). All that said I also love carving some trenches down a perfectly groomed slope and no one but no one grooms better than the staff at KB.

what about college specials?
Comment by marco — December 3, 2008 @ 5:30 pm
As we are so close to, how many colleges, a dozen pehaps? a huge chunck of our customers are students and to discount that market would take away a large percentage of income and KB is not in a position to offer discounted tickets at the counter to half our day ticket sale customer base. Now, if you start a club at your school of 20 folks or more I can deal. We have many such clubs including UB’s schussmeisters group which is HUGE. If you can start a club and hit 20 members you can ride for free all season. I am sugggesrting we do a series of College night/day promotions that will pop up on the web later in the season. That is the best I can do for now.

Marco, this is a KB blog paid for by Kissing Bridge, I do my best not to edit and to allow opinions both negative and positive and even notification of events etc. at and about other areas that have interest to our customers, however…. please refrain from posting other resorts ticket promotions and prices, they have a fine website at HV for that information. KB will be offering a 30.00 ticket on Jan. 31st to anyone with a valid College ID in conjunction with a major energy drink provider per a meeting I just returned from, thats an all day weekend prime time deal.
I hope to offer a few more special days or nights along these lines. In addition if you look at KBs online store you will find this…
Saturday College Ski
[COLLEGE] $135.00
Kissing Bridge has introduced a College Discount Package! $135.00 gets you a lift ticket every Saturday from 4:00pm to close! Simply swipe your card, and hit the slopes! Your program includes 4 group lessons. Lessons begin January 10, 2009 and end February 7, 2009. Your lesson time is at 7pm. ** PLEASE NOTE: upon picking up your card, a current student ID # and school name, WILL BE REQUIRED! Please make sure to list your college ID # on the space provided at checkout!**
Our standard night ticket is a bargain at 32.00 and none of our products exclude you from using them on weekend or holiday blocks. Keep checking the website for other deals every few weeks. We are very busy here weeeknights when the season gets rolling and because of the distance issue HV is not (that and kicking back at the D.D. may be a better option than freezing your backside off on the slopes). Week nights are where KB makes or breaks the season and an over the discount every night of the season to 1/3 of our customer base is just not happening.
Keep the 1/31 open during the day, should be fun, details are contractually unavailable at this point.
I hope this clears it up for you and I welcome your comments in the future.
It is snowing lightly and I am barking at folks trying to get a handle on the features that will be up this weekend. The ticket prices will remain discounted through this weekend unless we are able to open up a considerable amount of terrain.
Good Day.

KB should really have a forum of some sort. The blog is a good start, I just wish there was a way for members to create a new message.

I agree on the forum, but have one thought. Killington used to host a huge forum years back and it was very useful, but the management at the time could not see the value of paying for all the negativity that would show up whenever something was not all shiney and happy. They tried but eventually the moderator was forced to edit with a heavy hand or abandon the forum, they choose the later and a non-corporate Killingtonzone blog was started by someone from the sking community. Management at KB was given a post heading where they could drop things of note, but the conrol of the content was entirely up to the skiing and riding community resulting in a non confrontational and much more entertaining and useful resource. Just a few thoughts from a washed up measthead tele racer! See ya on the hill.

Вообще, откровенно говоря, комментарии тут гораздо занимательней самих постов. (Не в обиду автору, конечно
