I know you are all curious as to whats happening with at KB today. Here is what I can tell you
1. About 2 inches fell here at KB
2. About a foot fell in Springville, we are just outside the Lake Snow band, looking for it to shift later today.
3. Holly is lined with snow cannons both sides, top to bottom, ready to fire this evening.
4. Temps look good for snow makingĀ at night all week and Ops is prepared to make snow at every opportunity.
What I can not tell you…
1. Opening day, way to far out with warm ground temps to jump to any conclusions.
2. I do not remember full snowmaking operations starting this early during the past 5 seasons.
I will get some pics up tomorrow of the first nights progress and keep the site updated daily as we build toward an opening and hourly when things are looking like go time!
Here is a pic as of 8:30 this morning, Monday Nov. 17th, 2008.

2pm update, the snow has moved back into the Glenwood Valley, while we did not get much out of this lake snow event yet, perhaps the band is shifting and will settle in atop us. Stay tuned, as things change I will update here. Total event snowfall as of now, only three inches, but it continues to snow. I see some snowmakers lurking around the base area, preparing to fire up the system.

Snowmaking started last night and is still going as of 10am this morning, in fact additional guns are heading up the hill as I type. The heavy lake snow stayed south of us but this early start to the snowmaking season is very encouraging indeed. Looking at the hill I can not speculate on an opening day but I think that if it stays cold and we do not get any heavy natural snow that opening Late next week remains a possibility. Why I can’t say I would like to have seen 2 or 3 feet fall, the cold temps will allow the ground temp to drop as it is not insulated by the heavy snow and this will help with snowmaking and keeping the seasonal (subsurface) less icy. I will keep my ears and eyes open and fire off any news as it breaks.
Good Day

Look on the homepage and also on the snow report for pics from this morning. I am out of town at a sales event tomorrow, so no updates Thursday. Inside scoop… We hope to open Friday the 28th, it will not happen sooner barring a big natural snow event. A relatively rare Lake Effect set up left us just on the edge of the last event and without that little bump from Mamma Nature we will use the next 7-9 days to build up a sustainable base on Holly and Twister to ensure that we have a fighting chance of staying in operation should we, Ullr Forbid, see a December thaw. For the record I agree with management on this and feel taking advantage of this early snowmaking weather to get a jump on a season of quality snow is a wise move indeed. Very excited about the possibility of opening up next week. When ever news breaks look to http://www.kbski.com and this blog.

I am confident that we will open Friday after Thanksgiving, but this is not an official opening date from the Man. I have been told we will not open before that day. Visiting with PeaknPeak at a ski show in Sharon Pa. I had a discussion with them concerning thier opening. They were out in the news with an announcement of opening this weekend. They got 15 inches in the last storm and judging from our drive back from PA. they are getting more today. When they pulled the groomers out on the hill up came the mud, now they hope to open next Wednesday to honor holiday bookings. Things are looking good here with huge mounds of snow building on Holly and to a lesser extent Twister, when we open the conditions should be mid winter quality if the weather holds as it appears to want to do. The sun is out now, the cannons continue fire around the clock. It will not be long now. I may head to HV this weekend, but am leary of the crowds on limited terrain coupled with early season conditions and of course the cash layout, how about a report on conditions yesterday and or today? See you all soon.

As an avid skier I look forward to opening as much as any you and always get a little edgey when we get to this last week or so before the bull wheel turns. Looking up at the hill, walking under the guns and thinking of laying down some turns each day I really want to just throw the place open and ride (not that I have that kinda juice around here!). Truth is, over the past 5 seasons in good or bad snow years I think operations opens when the surface conditions and coverage represents a quality product. I imagine this year will be the same, pulling out my hair while the clock ticks down, all too slowly, toward opening day and then BAM, here it is. I was at a slaes event for KB yesterday, arriving back today and that explains the lack of communication over the past 24hours. If any news breaks trust I will get it out as soon as I hear about it. I very much hope this is my last full weekend off through April, so unless something extaordianry comes up I will update the site and Blog again Monday.

ya last year was awsome having a lil bit of a park open is it at all possible to do that again cuz i think we had more natural snowfall prior to opening day which might be wat contributed to that happening. but ya that would be sick if it happend again
